Strict Covid rules make Karachiites rush to vaccine centres in droves

Karachi on Sunday witnessed an unprecedented rush of Covid-19 vaccine jab contenders that at one vaccine centre at Liyari General Hospital, people thronged the facility in such great numbers that the hospital administration had to resort to the baton charge to control the crowd, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

People have swarmed the vaccine jab centres following the direction of Sindh government which has threatened to stop salaries of the government employees and block sims of mobile phone owners who would be unvaccinated by the end of this month. 

The great spate of vaccine shot aspirants took the provincial government off guards as vaccine doses were not available at small vaccination centres of the metropolitan city. The vaccine contenders were shoveled around in long queues. 

Seeing the great number of people at these facilities, the Karachi administration has decided to keep the inoculation centres open for 24 hours. 

In District East, the Ojha Camp vaccination centre at Dow University Hospital would remain open round the clock. 

Besides this, in District South, the vaccination facilities at Khaliq Dina Hall, Jinnah Hospital and Liyari General Hospital would also work for 24 hours. 

In District Central, the jab centres at Children Hospital and New Karachi Government Hospital will remain open round the clock.

In West District, the inoculation centre in Qatar Hospital and the vaccination centre in Murad Goth Korangi Government Hospital in Malir will also remain open for 24 hours. 

A large number of people have been inoculated in Sindh during this week. As many as more than 1 million people have been vaccinated during the last six days in the province. 

On Saturday, more than 0.193 million people were administered Covid vaccine doses in the province.
