Pakistan, Malaysia to ink agreement on prisoner swap in next few weeks

The agreement between Pakistan and Malaysia for the swap of prisoners has now entered its final stages, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Quoting its sources, 24News TV channel reported that Malaysia had handed over a draft of the agreement to Pakistan, and both sides would ink it in the next few weeks most likely during Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar’s visit to the country. 

They informed that presently 384 Pakistanis were imprisoned in Malaysian jails.    

Elaborating further, sources said most of them were serving prison terms for committing heinous crimes such as the use and smuggling of narcotics, murder, attempted murder, robberies, rape, prostitution and illegal immigration.

As many as 187 Pakistanis were in jail for coming to the country illegally; 52 in connection with narcotics-related crimes, 18 in connection with murder, an attempted murder, while one Pakistani in connection with money laundering and one in connection with cryptocurrency, sources said, adding five female Pakistanis were also languishing in Malaysian jails. 

Similarly, they explained that 11 Pakistanis were in prisons in connection with crimes such as committing sexual assault, rape and prostitution.
