Asma Jahangir group wins Pakistan Bar Council elections

The Asma Jahangir group on Thursday won the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) elections.
The PBC has elected 23 members for five years. Advocate Haroon-ur-Rashid was elected unopposed from Islamabad. For the only Balochistan seat, four candidates were in the run. According to unofficial results, Advocate Munir Kakar won four of the seven electoral votes to grab the Balochistan seat of the PBC.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 11 candidates were contesting the elections for four seats. Syed Amjad Shah, Faheem Wali, Tariq Afridi and Khushdil Khan won the four seats.
For the six PBC seats in Sindh, Farooq H. Naik, Shahadat Ali Awan, Riazat Ali Sehr, Shahab Sarki, Abid Zubairi and Yousaf Leghari were elected members of the PBC for the next five years.
The Asma Jahangir group was leading the race in Punjab, which has 11 seats of the PBC. Ahsan Bhoon, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Abid Saqi, Tahir Nasrullah, Pir Masood Chishti, Hafeezur Rehman Chaudhry, Hassan Raza Pasha, Mirza Aziz Akbar, Syed Kalbe-e-Hassan, Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan and Shahfqat Mahmood Chohan won their seats as members of the Pakistan Bar Council.
Attorney General Khalid Javed, who performed his duties as a returning officer, would notify the winning candidates on January 5.
