A meeting in Islamabad on Friday between Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood and representatives of private educational institutions has ended without any result on reopening of the schools, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Both sides discussed the issue in detail but could not reach an agreement on whether to reopen the educational institutions.

Shafqat Mehmood sought time until January 4 when an Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Conference (IPEMC) will take place followed by a meeting of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).

The education minister clearly told the representatives of the educational institutes that the government could not open the institutions without the directives from the Federal Health Ministry. “We have to keep in mind the health of our children, teachers and staff. Reopening of the institutions linked to the health ministry’s directive,” he added.

Shafqat Mehmood said the government was well aware of the problems being faced by the private educational institutions for which the government is readying an incentives package which will be unveiled soon.
