Awami Muslim League (AML) chief and former interior minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad said on Sunday that the country’s most popular party was being sidelined and efforts were being made to install the most corrupt person as the country’s prime minister as part of a conspiracy, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Speaking to media at his residence in Rawalpindi, Lal Haveli, he, while referring to the former prime minister and the PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, said how tragic that rules and regulations were being openly flouted just for the coronation of a money launderer.

He reiterated his demand for the release of all those who had been detained in connection with the incidents of May 9 violence.

Rasheed said that the country was in a pathetic state, and things would go out of control for Nawaz Sharif in the event of his becoming the country’s prime minister for the fourth time after the upcoming general elections. “Eventually Nawaz will have to go back to London,” he prophesied.

He was of the view that nothing could be more insulting for him than the allegation that he did not pay the rent of a guesthouse. “By God, I have not seen that guesthouse. All three allegations levelled against me are baseless,” he said emphatically.

AML chief further said he had not been told by the returning officer (RO) as yet that his nomination papers had been rejected. “I have been the federal minister for 17 times. There is nothing wrong with my papers,” he said.

He expressed the hope that he would win both the seats in the elections.
