Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has started giving honorarium to the imams, reported 24News HD TV channel on Thursday.
The provincial government has issued three months stipend to the imams across the province. The imams will get the stipend quarterly. The first stipend for the first quarter of the fiscal year, July to September, has been issued.
KP Chief Minister Mehmood Khan has fulfilled his promise by giving a stipend for the imams. He had announced an honorarium for the imams while chairing a meeting of the Auqat Department in January this year.
About 22,000 imams of mosques in the province have been given a monthly stipend of Rs 10,000. According to the announcement of the CM, Rs 227.2 million will be spent on these stipends monthly while more than Rs 2.5 billion will be spent annually.
