All Pakistan Textile Mills’ Association (APTMA) Patron-in-Chief Dr. Gohar Ejaz has written a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in which he has informed him that over 50 per cent drop in the exports of textile products was feared in July on account of suspension of the gas supply to the sector from July 1, 2022 to July 8, 2022, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
Gohar goes on to add that from July 9 till July 14 there were Eid holidays, which will also affect the exports. “Consequently, the exports might come down by $1 billion in the month under review,” he writes, and adds that the sector had the capacity to export products worth $2 billion per month.

APTMA patron-in-chief further writes that during the last two years of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government, the country’s exports grew from $12.5 billion to $20 billion. “And the figures are expected to reach $25 billion in the next year,” he says, and adds, “But I am afraid that the stoppage of gas supply to the industry for around two weeks could dent this progress.”

Gohar also brought this to the notice of the PM that people had invested $5 billion in the textile sector
