Punjab government Saturday imposed a ban on Itikaf (self-isolation in the month of Ramazan’s last 10 days) in all the mosques of the province, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.

Ban on Itikaf was imposed by the Auqaf Department and a notification in this regard has also been issued late night. The department claimed that it had taken such a decision following the worst situation of coronavirus across the province of Punjab.

After the imposition of this ban, now no mosque could hold the event of Itikaf that was going to start from Monday 21st Ramazan (May 03). So now no one devotee could sit in Itikaf in the mosques or special arrangements like Shehar-e-Itikaf in open areas at a large level.

Generally, Itikaf continued nine to ten days from 21st Ramazan and devotees returned to their social life at Chand Raat (just a night before the Eidul Fitr). Traditionally, family members, receive the devotees showering flower petals and giving some amount of money and dresses as a sign of respect and compassion.
