Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Sunday criticised Prime Minister Imran Khan for visiting Gilgit in violation of rules and regulations of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
Bilawal, who is leading PPP’s election campaign in Gilgit-Baltistan, told a public meeting in Ghizar that his party had been striving to get Gilgit-Baltistan the status of a province much before Prime Minister Imran Khan made an announcement in this regard on November 1. He said the PPP had included this demand in its 2018 election manifesto, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday.
Former G-B governor Qamar Zaman Kaira, Sohrab Khan Marri, Dr Karim Khawaja and Qasim Naved were also present on the occasion.
Bilawal paid a rich tribute to brave people of G-B for getting independence from the Dogra Raj through their own struggle and then joining hands with Pakistan.
He saluted this great struggle of the people of G-B. He said that afterwards Zulfikar Ali Bhutto liberated the people of GB from the FCR.
He said that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto gave the people of Gilgit-Baltistan subsidy on food, petrol and clothes to fulfil the slogan of “Roti, Kapra aur Makan”. Bhutto gave every citizen the right to passport and provided employment abroad so that people can earn for their families, he said.
“Similarly, Benazir Bhutto brought democracy to G-B, provided jobs and introduced the Lady Health Workers Program. He said that former president Asif Ali Zardari gave assembly, governor and chief minister to the people of GB. He also started BISP so that poor women can get some relief,” he added.
“This selected thinks that by removing photographs of Benazir Bhutto, people will forget her, but this will never happen because her name is engraved in the hearts of people. The last PPP government in GB provided 25 thousand jobs to the youth of GB,” Bilawal said.
