The Election Commission of Pakistan has rejected the request made by the Punjab government to postpone the NA-133 by-election, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday.

According to a spokesperson, the commission was not considering deferment of by-polls. The schedule has been announced and December 5 will be a polling day.

The Punjab government made the request for the postponement of the NA-133 (Lahore) by-election in wake of the TLP march.

The Lahore District Intelligence Committee on October 28 strongly recommended putting off the by-election.

A letter written to the ECP stated that the provincial government was committed to making all-out efforts to hold free and fair elections in a safe and secure environment in compliance with the ECP’s decision, but the TLP started a violent “Long March” towards Islamabad.

“These protesters are seriously undermining the safety and security of lives and properties of the public at large,” it added.
