Three miners were trapped in a coal mine in the Dumdar Coal Mines area near Dhaka Thursday morning after toxic gas filled the shafts.
The incident occurred at 8 a.m., with the miners trapped at a depth of 1,400 feet while conducting repair work in a mine extending to 2,800 feet deep.
Local coal miners, alongside the Department of Mines and district administration, launched an immediate rescue operation.
After eight hours, rescue teams managed to pull one miner, Hafeezullah, out alive, but sadly recovered the bodies of the other two miners, identified as Habib-ur-Rehman and Saifullah.
The deceased were transported to Dhaka Civil Hospital for procedures before being repatriated to their home country of Afghanistan.
