Lt-Gen (retd) Muzaffar Hussain Usmani, who served as the Karachi corps commander and deputy chief of army staff, died of cardiac arrest in the port city, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday morning.
Earlier, police had noticed a body in a car in Do Darya, a posh seaside locality of Karachi, which was later identified as that of Usmani.
The police officials say initial information suggests that Usmani suffered a heart attack while driving. His body was shifted to PNS Shifa and the police had started investigating the matter, they added.
Usmani was the corps commander in Karachi and had taken control of the airport as Pervez Musharraf landed at there in process of taking over power from the then prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Oct 12, 1999.
