Lahore High Court on Friday overturned the order for detention of defunct Tehrik-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chief Saad Hussain Rizvi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Accepting an application filed by Saad Rizvi’s uncle Ameer Hussain, LHC’s Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh declared the TLP chief’s detention as invalid.

The court issued its ruling after hearing the completion of arguments put forward by the lawyers of both sides.

The Provincial Review Board had on July 2 rejected the government’s application for extension in Saad Rizvi’s detention.

The Provincial Review Board threw out the government’s plea under the MPO.

After the rejection of extension in detention, the government had again detained Saad Rizvi on July 10 under Anti-Terrorism Act.

Earlier, Ameer Hussain had filed the petition, saying the Saad Rizvi’s detention was extended after a review board of the high court’s judges turned down the government request to extend the detention of Rizvi under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance 1960.

He asked the court to declare the act of the government illegal and order the release of Rizvi.

Saad Rizvi was detained after his organisation (TLP) staged sit-ins across the country demanding the government to expel the ambassador of France in the wake of blasphemous cartoons.
