Amid rising cases of dengue in the provincial capital city of Sindh, a shortage of paracetamol pills is adding to patients' problems, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.

Paracetamol is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline and is sold under the brand name Panadol. In the recent month, the demand for the drug has increased due to a surge in dengue and Covid-19 cases in the country.

Panadol can be used for relieving fever, and for the treatment of mild to moderate pain including headache, migraine, muscle ache, dysmenorrhea, and sore throat.

The medical store owners are of the view that Panadol is not available in the market while its substitutes are also very costly and beyond the reach of common patients. They said that the shortage is not merely due to the high demand. The major reason for the shortage is a decrease in its production, they claimed. The citizens claimed said Paracetamol is being sold in the black market.

They said that in the absence of Panadol, people are forced to use Papaya leaves for the recovery of dengue fever while medical experts have warned these leaves are harmful to human health.
