Farmers will have to face dearth of water in Rabi season as there is a fear of water shortfall of up to 18 percent due to lack of adequate reservoirs in the country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
In this regard Indus River System Authority (Irsa) has called a meeting of the advisory committee which will be held tomorrow at Irsa headquarters to review the prevailing situation of water shortfall.
The Irsa authorities are worried about the issue that how will water be distributed among the provinces in the Rabi season?
Irsa sources revealed that Sindh and Punjab may face 18percent water shortfall from February to April next year.
The meeting will review the availability and distribution of water in Rabi season.
In the meeting, the problems of low release of water from Tarbela Dam will also be reviewed.
Chairman Irsa also summoned officials of Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) as WAPDA has closed the tunnels of Tarbela Dam due to construction works.
Due to the closure of tunnels 1, 2, 3 and 4, water leakage problems are increasing which may lead to water crisis in Sindh.
In the meeting, the all provincial secretaries of irrigation department and Meteorological department officials also participate.
