The Lahore High Court (LHC) Saturday directed the Federal Investigation Agency to register a complaint and take necessary action against the police officers involved in custodial torture allegations of Amna Arooj, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The LHC issued a written order following the hearing of a petition filed by Amna Arooj, the accused in the high-profile case involving renowned Pakistani playwright Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar.
The court responding to the allegations of custodial torture raised by the petitioner, directed the DG Federal Investigation Agency to take necessary action against the police officers involved in the case and submit a detailed report on the matter.
In the two-page written order, issued by Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh, the court highlighted that the medical report confirmed that Amna Arooj had been subjected to torture during her physical remand.
The court reiterated that under the Custodial Death Act of 2022, such acts of torture are considered criminal offenses.
The Lahore High Court stressed the need for thorough investigations to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The court also noted that Amna Arooj claimed she had suffered both mental and physical torture during her remand.
The court order further stated that, as per judicial directives, Arooj was presented before the court, where she confirmed that the petition was filed on her behalf.
