Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced to open the construction industry amid the general lockdown, and said he will unveil a huge relief package for the industry on Friday.
Addressing a ceremony in Islamabad on Thursday, the PM said “We’re trying our level best to save the daily wagers from unemployment,” and added that it is not the government but every (well-to-do) individual’s responsibility to cater to the weak segment of the society.
The PM said that the opening of the construction industry would not be leading to the spread of the infection due to the nature of the work in which the workers tend to work at a distance.
“In Pakistan, the spread of the infection is slower than the other countries,” he said, adding “the cement industry will flourish only if there is construction work.”
Imran Khan said that the leadership is reviewing not only the coronavirus but also its impacts on the country. However, he said “it’s our first priority to promote the industry.”
He said that government is trying to ensure the provision of money under the Ehsas Programme, and added that “As many as 120 million families will extend financial assistance under this programme.”
