Bhakkar Police on Sunday foiled an attempt to smuggle weapons and arrested two suspects at the Dajal check post, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to police sources, the police had received a report of illegal arms and ammunition smuggling from Dera Ismael Khan of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Lahore. The police taking action recovered a huge cache of arms being smuggled through a vehicle bearing fake official number plates.

As many as 22 rifles, 42 bullet magazines, and 181 cartridges hidden in the car's secret compartments were recovered from the possession of the two accused.

The arms were allegedly taken from the camp of former federal minister Ali Amin Gandapur located in Dera Ismael Khan and were being transferred to Lahore.

According to Bhakkar police, the inter-provincial police check post on Dajal signaled the speeding car coming from DI Khan to stop for checking.

So, the driver tried to escape by breaking the barrier and ramming the car at the policeman. But the police mobiles chased the suspect vehicle and cornered it at a short distance.

Arrested driver Muhammad Rasheed resident of Dera Ismael Khan and his companion Ijaz of Mandi Bahauddin confessed that the weapons were loaded from the camp of PTI leader Ali Amin Gandapur and were shifted to Lahore.

DPO Bhakkar Mohammad Naveed said that the seized weapons could have been used in sabotage.

A case has been registered against the accused and an investigation has been started from different angles.

DPO also appreciated the staff for performing a good job.
