The Gilgit-Biltistan government Monday imposed a ban on the entry of tourists into the northern areas due to heavy rains and land-sliding on Karakoram Highway.

According to the 24News HD TV channel, the GB government had imposed the ban for an indefinite period because the Karakoram Highway and the Babu Sar Road were damaged by rains and land sliding at several points.

Due to rainy weather and the closure of the roads after land sliding, hundreds of vehicles and passengers were stranded in Gilgit-Baltistan. Most vehicles had been stopped at Zero-Point in Chilas and Gunnar Farms areas.

The Gilgit-Baltistan government has ordered the staff posted at Thor check post and Babu Sar check post to stop tourists from entering Gilgit-Baltistan.

The government also warned that strict action would be taken against the staff and the officers posted at the entry points if tourists entered in Gilgit-Baltistan despite the ban.

Diamer Deputy Commissioner Saad bin Asad said that due to rains, more landslides were feared in the hilly areas.
