Pakistan and India will face each other on August 28 as the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced the schedule for the Asia Cup 2022 (T20 format).
Hosts Sri Lanka will play against Afghanistan in the opening match of the Asian event as Sharjah and Dubai will host the multi-nation event.
The event was originally slated to be held in Sri Lanka but due to political turmoil and unrest the ACC relocated it to the UAE upon the request of Sri Lanka Cricket.
The much-awaited contest between Pakistan and India will remain the centre of attraction in the event.
In 2021, Pakistan beat India by 10 wickets to win their first-ever World Cup match against the arch-rivals.
In the first phase, UAE, Singapore, Kuwait, and Hong Kong will play in qualifiers. Later on, a team from the qualifiers will join the five main teams for the main event.
The winner of qualifiers will join Group A that includes Pakistan and India and while Group B consists Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
Pakistan and India may meet each other thrice in the event depending how they perform.
However, the most likely next match between the two sides will be on September 4 in Super 4 when top placed and second placed teams in group A will meet.
If the other matches remained in their favour, both teams could face each other again in the final of the event that would be held on September 11.
