Irregularities found in Hassan Abdal Expressway project

An audit report presented before the Public Accounts Committee has found irregularities amounting to Rs4 billion in the construction of Hassan Abdal Expressway and Rs2 billion misappropriation in the construction of Multan-Sukkur section of the Peshawar-Karachi Motorway, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The Public Accounts Committee meeting was held on Thursday under the chair of its head Rana Tanvir. An audit report on Hassan Abdal Expressway and Peshawar-Karachi Motorway projects was presented before the committee. 

According to the audit report, it detected Rs4 billion bungling in the Hassan Abdal Expressway and Rs2 billion irregularities in the Peshawar-Karachi Motorway’s Multan-Sukkur section. It said substandard material was used in the construction of both the projects. 

The communication secretary told the committee that the Nespak and M&I report had cleared the Expressway.

The report said that 56 tests were conducted after the construction of the Expressway and only 26 of them were cleared. 

The Public Accounts Committee suggested to take the Expressway matter back to its departmental accounts committee.

In the Peshawar-Karachi Motorway project, the audit report found that the ECNEC had approved Rs240 billion PC I but the project was completed in Rs294 billion.
