Accepting the federal government’s request to adjourn the hearing of the audio leaks commission case, the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday gave the Additional Attorney General (AAG) Amir Rehman time to seek instructions from the government in this regard, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
A six-member bench, headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan, heard the case.
Speaking on the occasion, the AAG said the main question was whether the government wanted the leaked audios to be probed. “The matter had to be presented at the cabinet meeting for discussion. But due to the law and order situation in Islamabad, it could not be presented,” he informed.
He prayed to the bench to give time so that the cabinet could discuss it.
The official assured the bench that it would be informed of the cabinet’s decision.
Justice Aminuddin remarked it would be better if the AAG was allowed time to take instructions from the government. “We will look into the matter once we are informed of the cabinet’s decision.”
Bench refuses to hear prisoners' facilities case
Also on Monday, the bench, while upholding the objections raised by the Registrar's Office, threw out the plea, seeking the provision of equal facilities to jail inmates, saying it was inadmissible for the hearing.
Justice Jamal Mandokhel questioned, “Is it the duty of the apex court to hear such type of cases?”
