FJMU launches Women Empowerment Mentorship Program to promote academic growth

Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) has initiated the Women Empowerment Mentorship Program (WEMP) to support female professionals in academia and research, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday. 

The orientation session for the program was held on February 1, 2025, under the supervision of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Masud Gondal. 

During his opening address, Prof DrGondal emphasized the importance of mentorship in fostering women's empowerment, particularly in academic and research sectors. 

The session was attended by Deans, Mentorship Program Committee (MPC) members, mentors, and mentees enrolled in WEMP at FJMU. 

Notable faculty members present included Prof Dr Bilquis Shabbir, Prof Dr Aliya Zahid, Prof Dr Shamila Ijaz Munir, Prof Dr Lubna Ameer, Prof Dr Farzana, Prof Dr Naghmana Latif, Prof Dr Aysha Rashid, Prof Dr Fauzia Ishaq, Prof Dr Asmaa Qureshi, Prof Dr Noor-Ul-Ain Waheed, Dr Rameeza Kaleem, Dr Taskeen Zahra, and Dr Faiza Abrar.

The WEMP initiative consists of five modules designed to provide structured mentorship and guidance to women in academic fields. Prof Dr Bilquis Shabbir conducted the first module on "Mentoring in Higher Education," offering insights into the impact of mentorship on career development. Dr Taskeen Zahra, the focal person for WEMP at FJMU, elaborated on the program's structure and key components.
