West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has alleged BJP of committing "state-sponsored genocide" as the death toll in Delhi's violence has risen to at least 46.
The situation remains tense in the Indian capital as some reports put the number of deaths at 47.
As many as 38 persons have been reported dead at the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, three at Lok Nayak Hospital, four at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and one at Jag Parvesh Chander Hospital, India Today reported on Monday.
Four bodies were fished out from the drains in Gokalpuri and Shiv Vihar areas of the violence-affected northeast area on Sunday, it said.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday alleged the communal violence in Delhi was "state-sponsored genocide" and the BJP was trying to replicate the "Gujarat model of riots" across the country, said a report by Business Standard.
Addressing a TMC event, Banerjee also condemned those who raised the controversial "goli maro..." slogan while heading to Home Minister Amit Shah's rally in the city.
"I am deeply pained by the killing of innocent people in Delhi. I think it was genocide... the violence in Delhi was state-sponsored," she said.
Banerjee claimed it was due to the CAA that "so many people were killed" in the Delhi violence. "Amit Shah should keep this in mind".
She said the BJP should apologise for the Delhi riots.
"The BJP is trying to replicate the Gujarat model of riots across India, including in West Bengal," the chief minister added.
Some lawmakers on Monday staged a protest inside the Parliament complex over the issue of communal riots in Delhi and demanded a probe by a Supreme Court or high court judge into the last week violence.
AAP MPs Sanjay Singh, Bhagwant Mann, N D Gupta and Sushil Gupta staged the protest in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the Parliament complex. They raised slogans like "BJP Murdabad".
CPI(M) politburo member Brinda Karat has written to acting city Police Commissioner S N Shrivastava demanding that the names of those arrested in connection with the violence in northeast Delhi be made public.
A similar demand was made on Sunday by rights activists who said that it is mandated by law that police stations display the names of those arrested with their addresses.
"Despite the express mandate of the law, the names and addresses of all arrested persons are not being displayed at the Police Control Room. Not only this, the details are not being displayed at each individual police station as well," Karat said in her letter to Shrivastava.
"In light of the incidents and prevailing circumstances, you would appreciate the need for strict compliance with this provision, as such transparency and compliance of the legal mandate will go a long way towards dispelling rumours and misinformation that are plaguing the lives of all those affected," she said.
