Steel Mills corruption case took a new turn as the NAB challenged the accountability court’s decision of acquitting the former Steel Mills Chairman Moin Aftab Sheikh in the Sindh High Court, requesting it to declare the accountability court’s decision null and void.
The petition argued that Moin Aftab gave undue favour to Abdul Rasheed in awarding the coal tender, and purchased the coal at an exorbitant price. Thus the accused caused a massive loss of over Rs900 million to the national exchequer.
The anti-corruption department had initiated the case in 2010 but later it was transferred to the NAB on the directives of the Supreme Court.
Later, the accountability court had acquitted three accused including Moin Aftab due to insufficient evidence. In addition to Moin Aftab, the other accused were Director Commercial Pakistan Steel Mill Samin Asghar and the contractor Abdul Rasheed.
