Pakistan Super League (PSL) was rocked by more Covid-19 infections as two more players and one official were tested positive on Tuesday throwing the League Season Six into doubt, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Media Director Samiul Hassan Burney confirmed the new coronavirus cases, saying the infected players and official will now go into quarantine for 10 days.
He said since Monday when when Islamabad United's player, Fawad Ahmed, tested positive for Covid-19 244 tests have been conducted of the players and the officials and the results will come back soon. He said Fawad Ahmed will undergo another test today.
He, however, declared that today's match between Islamabad United and the Quetta Gladiators, which was originally scheduled for yesterday but delayed by a day after the discovery of the coronavirus infection, will go ahead as planned tonight at 7pm.
As the test results of players and officials of all the teams will take a few days, there is a likelihood that the League may be halted for a few days.
On Tuesday, there was also no security personnel present outside Karachi’s National Stadium where the PSL matches are being played.
On Monday, the Pakistan Cricket Board had postponed the 12th match of the PPSL between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators as one of the United players, Fawad Ahmad, tested positive for the coronavirus.
The PCB announced the deferment of the match and said that the match would now be played today (Tuesday) at 7pm.
The Pakistan Cricket Board said, “Test results of both Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United squads have come back negative. This is being done to ensure players from both sides get time to prepare for the game. Tickets will be valid for tomorrow.”
