The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday filed an application with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for disqualification of Yusuf Raza Gilani, former prime minister of Pakistan, who is contesting the March 3 Senate election from the platform of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

The PTI moved the ECP against Gilani after a video showed his son Ali Haider Gilani allegedly involved in horse trading ahead of the Senate election. The application against Gilani has been submitted by PTI lawmakers Mian Farrukh Habib and Kanwal Shozab.

The applicants said that Gilani was involved in corruption in the Senate election and his son was found convincing lawmakers to waste their votes instead of voting for their party candidates. They said that Ali Haider Gilani confessed to his crime at the news conference. The applicants asked the ECP to disqualify Yusuf Raza Gilani
