A local court in Islamabad, accepting a plea filed by Lt-Gen (retd) Amjad Shoaib, discharged him in a case of inciting people for mutiny and spreading hatred against state institutions, reported 24MewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

Additional Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra announced the ruling.

Earlier, the prosecutor had opposed the discharge plea. The court heard arguments from both sides, reserved its ruling and then announced a decision.

Amjad Shoaib, a retired army officer, and his YouTube channel was proved to be part of an organised propaganda campaign, the 24NewsHD TV had reported on Wednesday.

The FIA completed the forensics of Amjad Shoaib's mobile phone and as per the findings, his mobile turned out to be an important tool of PTI and Imran Khan's negative propaganda.

The detail of his close contacts and conversation showed the ex-serviceman’s connections with the persons involved in the campaign targeting the state organs and key figures.

PTI leaders Asad Umar, Ali Zaidi, Usman Dar, Fawad Chaudhry, Shibli Faraz, Zartaj Gul, Farrukh Habib and Ghulam Sarwar were included in the WhatsApp circle of General Amjad Shoaib.

His ties with notorious Adil Raja and some journalists were too found. Amjad spread rumours about Israeli Prime Minister and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's visit to Qatar. Though the ex-serviceman admitted in writing that the story was bogus, the YouTube propaganda went on.

A local court in Islamabad on Monday had given police three-day physical remand of former Pakistan Army officer Lt-General (retd) Amjad Shoaib relating to inciting people for mutiny and spreading hatred against state institutions.

The Islamabad police had requested a week-long physical remand of the accused.
