The Lahore High Court on Thursday disposed of a contempt petition against Chief Election Commissioner and others declaring it as ineffective, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The petitioner had filed a contempt petition in the Lahore High Court for not announcing Punjab Assembly elections date despite orders issued by the LHC in this regard.
The high court on Thursday resumed hearing of contempt case against the ECP and others.
During proceedings, Justice Jawad Hassan remarked that the Supreme Court had ordered that elections must be conducted in 90 days positively.
“Now, there is not valid reason for proceeding against ECP, others for contempt of court,” Justice Jawad remarked.
Justice Jawad asked the lawyer to withdraw his petition and should not press for allegations.
The petitioner had requested the LHC to initiate contempt proceedings against the ECP and others despite they were ordered by Lahore High Court to issue a date for Punjab Assembly elections.
