A senior officer of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Tuesday appealed to President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi to direct the ECP to immediately issue the draft of its service rules, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The officer, Irfan Kausar, sent letters to the president, Senate chairman and National Assembly speaker on Tuesday over non-issuance of the draft of the service rules of the ECP officials.
“In the Election Act 2017, the ECP was authorised to make the service rules of its officers and other employees, but the commission has so far failed to make these rules,” the text of the letter read.
“Election Commission Officers and Servants Rules 1989, issued by the President of Pakistan, shall remain in force until the commission formulates the rules,” it added.
“The power to amend the rules also rests with the President of Pakistan, not with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC),” it stated.
“The CEC appointed retired persons at senior positions against the rules issued by the President of Pakistan. The seniority list of officers from grade 17 to 20 is raising doubts regarding general elections,” it expressed concerns.
