The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday granted protective bail to former Punjab chief minister Pervaiz Elahi till May 15 next, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Pervaiz Elahi had appeared before the LHC for protective bail in the case registered at Ghalib Market police station, Lahore.
“A case was registered at Ghalib Market police station for resisting the police raid at Pervaiz Elahi’s house,” the petition stated.
“The sanctity of the house was violated during the police raid. The police have nominated [Pervaiz Elahi] in the case on baseless allegations,” it added.
“It is feared that the police will arrest Pervaiz Elahi. It is requested that protective bail be granted,” it pleaded.
Court rejects to block attempt to arrest ex-CM
The Lahore High Court (LHC) Tuesday rejected the plea to stop the arrest of former Punjab chief minister Pervaiz Elahi.
While hearing the plea against the raid of Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) and police on the house of Pervaiz Elahi in Lahore, the LHC issued notice to the ACE director general and other respondents in the case and sought a reply from them by May 8 next.
The court also sought the details of the cases registered against Pervaiz Elahi and adjourned further hearing of the case till May 8, 2023.
Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore granted bail to the 15 suspects arrested during the raid on Pervaiz Elahi’s house on the condition of submitting Rs100,000 worth of surety bonds each.
The lawyers for the accused had filed a post-arrest bail plea. ATC Judge Ijaz Ahmad Buttar pronounced the verdict, granting bail to the accused.
Mumtaz Hussain, Muhammad Sabir, Munir Ahmed, Masood Ahmed and Malik Ashiq were among those who had been arrested.
Earlier, the court had ordered to send the accused to jail on judicial remand. A case had been registered against them at Ghalib Market police station over resisting the police raid at Pervaiz Elahi’s house and attacking the policemen.
