Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif Friday met with USAID Mission Director Veeraya Kate Somvongsiri to discuss strengthening Pakistan-US relations and cooperation across various sectors, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
American Consul General Kristin K. Hawkins and USAID Punjab Chapter representative Areesha Bano were also present at the meeting.
The talks covered mutual interests, with both sides agreeing to enhance collaboration in trade, climate change, renewable energy, women’s economic empowerment, healthcare, and education. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed Pakistan’s interest in leveraging U.S. expertise in green energy and modern technology to combat climate change and reduce pollution.
“We have introduced panic buttons and virtual police stations to protect women and launched modern internships for skilled human resources,” she said, highlighting recent government initiatives. She emphasized that the partnership with the U.S. is vital for regional development and peace and reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
Maryam Nawaz noted Pakistan's improved security and stability, adding that the PML-N government has established new standards in governance and transparency. The two sides also explored future investment opportunities and ways to further enhance people-to-people connections between Pakistan and the U.S.
