Shehbaz Sharif denounces attack

Strongly condemning the terror attack near parliament in Ankara, the capital of Türkiye, former prime minister and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday said that he, on behalf of the people of Pakistan, showed his solidarity with the government and people of Turkey.

In a tweet posted on X, Shehbaz wrote: “I strongly condemn the terrorist attack near the Turkish Parliament in Ankara. Our prayers are with the injured police officers for a swift recovery and the safety of our Turkish brothers and sisters. The people of Pakistan express unwavering solidarity with the citizens and government of Türkiye.”

In a statement, Shehbaz said he thanked the Almighty Allah that not many lives were lost in the incident.

“Terrorists are enemies of the entire mankind,” he said, and stressed the need for making collective efforts to eliminate terrorists and their handlers.

He appealed to the United Nations and the Security Council to consider taking action against such people. “There is a need to investigate as to who is behind these bombings,” he emphasized.

Former prime minister also appealed to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to help the Muslim world chalk out a strategy to deal with the scourge of terrorism.

He was of the view that a special pattern could be noticed in recent terror attacks that had taken place in different parts of the world. “The murder of a Sikh leader in Canada is an instance of how a state patronizes such horrific incidents,” Shehbaz concluded.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also condemned the terrorist incident in the Turkish capital Ankara.

“The incident of terrorism near the Turkish Parliament and Foreign Ministry office in Ankara is worrying,” he said.

“The thought of terrorism can be defeated through the best strategy with strong determination and courage,” he stated.

“The world will have to continue its struggle against subversive thinking until the end of the last terrorist,” he stressed.

“The people of Pakistan and Turkey are bound in a strong bond of history. Shaheed Benazir Bhutto along with former Turkish prime minister Tansu Ciller visited the affected area wearing a bulletproof vest during Serbian shelling and gave a message of peace,” he pointed out.

“The people of Pakistan and Turkey have to move forward with this strong message of peace and fight terrorism,” he emphasised.
