The import of onion and tomato has been started from Afghanistan via the Torkham border to end the shortage of veggies in Pakistan as Pakistan.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, Pakistan has waived import duty on onion and tomato from the neighbouring country.
Torkham Customs Collector Amanat Khan confirmed that 5,000 metric tons of onion have been imported from Afghanistan in the last 24 hours.
He said 1800 metric tons of tomatoes loaded on 90 trucks have also reached Pakistan as the federal government has waived duty on onion and tomato imports from Afghanistan and Iran.
The Customs Collector said that staff are deployed for the clearance of vehicles loaded with onions and Tomatoes at the Torkham border.
Amanat Khan said that due to imports from Afghanistan, the shortage of onions and tomatoes in the country will end now.
