In its intelligence-based operations in several cities of Punjab, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested five women belonging to a militant group, Islamic State (IS) or Daesh, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
Spokesman for the CTD said that in view of possible acts of terror, the department carried out operations and arrested three women from Lahore and two from Sheikhupura.
The spokesman said banned literature, cellphones, weapons and cash were recovered from those taken into custody namely Fakhira, Saadia, Aiman, Javeria and Faiza.
He explained that cases had been registered against them and investigation was underway.
Giving further details, the spokesman said that the CTD, in its 308 combing operations in the province during the ongoing week, had arrested 76 suspected persons. “In all, 15,225 people were questioned,” he said, adding, “The CTD is striving to achieve the target of ‘Safe Punjab’, and it is committed to eradicating terrorism.”
