The Islamabad High Court (IHC) referred the matter of making relevant Islamic teachings part of the curriculum to avoid incidents like the Jaranwala tragedy to the prime minister, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
Justice Babar Sattar disposed of minority leader Jay Salik’s plea with directions.
“The prime minister and the Punjab chief minister have taken notice of the Jaranwala incident. It is appropriate that the prime minister presents this matter before the federal cabinet,” the IHC stated.
“The federal cabinet should decide whether there is a need to change the curriculum to teach tolerance to children or not,” the IHC remarked.
“According to the petitioner, the Constitution gives all citizens equal rights to practice their religions. Incidents of targeting minorities happen in Pakistan every day. Persecution of minorities is against the basic tenets of Islam and the Sunnah of the Prophet (SAW),” the court said in its order.
“The petitioner wants steps to prevent such incidents. He has requested to make the relevant Islamic teachings part of the curriculum for the protection of minority rights,” it added.
“This request of Jay Salak is forwarded to the prime minister through the principal secretary,” it ordered.
