The federal government has said that rightsizing is underway in all ministries not only from grade-1 to grade-16, but also from grade 16 to grade 22, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
In its reply to the observations made by the Rightsizing Committee member Dr. Qaiser Bengali, the government, while telling him that it looks up to his observations with respect, has said there may be over 60,000 government employees in surplus, including those between grade 17 and grade 22. “So far, there has been a review of six ministries; the recommendation to abolish one ministry has been approved and two ministries are going to be merged,” it said in its reply.
The government has told Bengali that along with working on introducing amendments to the Civil Servants Act, 1973, it is also working on a retirement package which would be equally applicable to all government servants.
The government has said it thinks that Bengali’s observations may be due to a lack of coordination or of understanding.
