DRAP doesn’t have powers to register sanitizers

April 3, 2020 12:13 PM

Everyone is Pakistan, like the rest of the world, is nowadays urging the people to wash their hands at once in every hour or use the hand sanitizers regularly, but there is a problem: none of the sanitizers could be registered because the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) doesn’t have the necessary powers.

The result? Substandard sanitizers are being sold at medical stores amid the coronavirus pandemic, 24NewsHD TV channel reported.

Meanwhile, the DRAP is also facing problems in the registration of new medicines due to the shortage of staff, as 250 posts are currently lying vacant.

It is said that no medicines or sanitizers have been registered during the last few months because of the staff shortage and the 14 departments working without any director in the CEO-less DRAP.

Moreover, the lack of authority also means that no new medicine is being developed.

In the given situation, additional directors are being appointed after every three months who operate various departments.

This adhocism meant that the DRAP could not issue directives for making new medicines or sanitizers.
