The steering committee of the Pakistan Democratic Movement has decided to serve show-cause notices on the Pakistan People’s Party and the Awami National Party, 24NewsHD reported on Friday.
Citing sources, the report said the PDM took the decision after they differed from the alliance’s decision, costing the anti-government campaign dear.
The body sought their (PPP and ANP) explanation in writing, the insiders said, adding that a meeting of the party heads will be called after the PDM President Fazlur Rehman gets well. The committee decided to devise a joint strategy in the next meeting of the PDM party heads.
Last week, PDM Secretary General Shahid Khaqan Abbasi expressed hope that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) would stay a component party of the movement till the last moment. Reportedly, Abbasi said there was no reason for PPP’s parting ways with the alliance.
A few days ago, a PPP senior leader said no member party can be removed from the PDM merely on the wishes of another party. No party has any right to take unilateral decisions, PPP leader Nayyar Bokhari said. He added that it had been agreed in the declaration issued after the multi-party conference (MPC) in September that all the parties would be bound to follow the decisions taken unanimously at the PDM forum.
