The Pakistan Cricket Board is saddened on the passing of the former Test cricketer Farooq Hameed at the age of 80 years, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Farooq Hameed was Pakistan’s Test cap number 48 and represented the country in one Test match against Australia in December 1964 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Former Australia captain Ian Chappell was his solitary Test wicket.
Farooq, who was a right-arm fast bowler, played 43 first-class matches and his career stretched from 1961-61 to 1969-70. He picked up 111 wickets at an average of 25.21 with the help of three five-wicket hauls.
PM grieved
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday expressed grief and sorrow over demise of former test cricketer Farooq Hameed.
The prime minister offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, praying for the elevation of ranks of the departed soul in Jannah.
In a statement, he said that late Farooq Hamid brought great honour to Pakistan through his performance in sports.
