Traders, business community welcomes relief in power prices

Traders and business community has welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s decision of slashing power prices for domestic as well as industry, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel. 

Traders and industrialists welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s announcement by saying that the relief package is welcome for domestic consumers and industry, adding that this move will improve exports. 

Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FPCCI) President Atif Ikram Sheikh, while holding a press conference in Islamabad along with other officials, said that relief of Rs 7.41 per unit in the price of electricity is a welcome. He said this move will improve exports, key rates have come down and the country is moving in the right direction. 

Business leader SM Tanveer thanked the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Army Chief for the relief package. SM Tanveer said that wrong agreements were made with IPPs in the past and now the government has rectified them. He said today's relief is for domestic consumers as well as industry and commercial sectors. Vice President FPCCI Quratul Ain said that 10 months ago it was claimed that such steps were not possible but now government achieved it successfully. 

FPCCI officials said that traders were saying since day one that electricity should be made cheaper. They hoped that the government will further reduce electricity rates. 

Traders demanded that there was a need that interest rates should be further lowered.
