Alarming rise in polio cases being witnessed as three new cases of polio were reported in Pakistan. The total number of polio virus cases rose to 59 during current year, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Tuesday.
National Institute of Health (NIH) confirmed that three new polio cases were reported one each from Dera Ismail Khan, Kemari Karachi and Kashmore area of Sindh.
During current year of 2024, 26 polio cases were reported from Balochistan, 16 from Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa, 15 from Sindh while one each case of polio was reported from Islamabad and Punjab.
Earlier on November 3, two polio cases were reported from Khyber Pukhtonkhwa province in Pakistan. The first case was reported in the Lakki Marwat area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while the second case was reported in Dera Ismail Khan.
According to the Pakistan Polio Eradication Programme, Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only countries where polio remains endemic, and vaccination teams are frequently targeted by militants waging a campaign against security forces.
