The Lahore High Court Friday restricted Lahore Development Authority Lahore (LDA) from carrying out simultaneous development projects on busy roads of the city, reported 24NewsHd TV channel.
Justice Shahid Karim while hearing a petition filed by Syed Moazzam Ali Shah Advocate against illegal constructions in the provincial capital city directed the LDA to take measures to cover nine model roads of the city with greenery and rooftop gardening.
He also asked the authorities to hire the best environmental consultants for controlling the heatwave in the city.
LDA Director General Aamir Ahmad Khan and other officers appeared in the court and submitted reports on the environment, illegal construction in the city, and the progress regarding turning nine main arteries of the provincial metropolis into model roads.
Justice Shahid Karim directed LDA DG to start a new project after the completion of the already ongoing project. He directed to make advance arrangements for climate change and reduce heatwaves in the city during the summer season.
Aamir Ahmed Khan told the court that LDA is taking several steps to improve the environment of the provincial capital.
“In the first phase, the main boulevard in Allama Iqbal Town and Johar Town G-1 Road will be upgraded.”
He said following the court orders, the major roads of the city and arteries will be upgraded. “A recruitment process for hiring environmental consultant has been initiated.”
He also assured the court that five trees will be planted in replace of one tree on the ongoing development projects. He contended that action is also being taken against those who do not make proper parking arrangements. The court praised the actions of LDA chief Aamir Ahmad Khan. The representatives of WASA, TEPA, Traffic, and Environment Department were also present.
The court summoned the MD of Lahore Parking Company for the next hearing and directed that PHA, Lahore Parking Company, and all related institutions should fully support LDA.
