The Supreme Court (SC) has summoned the Director General (DG) of Customs Intelligence tomorrow in a case related to non-custom paid vehicles, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
A two-member SC bench, headed by Justice Qazi Faez Isa, heard the case.
While hearing the case, Justice Qazi Faez Isa asked why the Customs officials appeared before the court unprepared.
He then remarked that no one knew whether the vehicles were in the custody of Customs or released.
“Who is the most senior Customs officer in Islamabad?” he questioned to which the lawyer for Customs said that the DG Customs was the most senior.
Justice Faez Isa further asked how and from where those non-custom paid vehicles were coming to Pakistan. “Does anyone bring these vehicles in his pockets?”
The lawyer for Customs said that the department would comply with SC orders.
“No favour will you do by following the SC orders,” Faez Isa remarked, adding: “According to the Constitution, everyone is bound by the order of the Supreme Court.”
He also said: “I will be grateful if you and your officers comply with the SC orders.”
