Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi raised concerns at the possibility of a massive influx of Afghan refugees into Pakistan, 24NewsHD reported on Friday.

In reply to a question during a press conference, he said the government should tell the US that Pakistan will be at the receiving end if a civil war begins in Afghanistan in wake of its military departure.

Pakistan remained at receiving end whenever foreigners interfered in Afghanistan affairs and left it, he said and stressed that the government should told the foreign power about the fact.

“We want Afghans to seal their fate at their own, he said adding that Afghanistan should become a sovereign state and there is no other way out.

He recalled bearing with up to 9 million Afghan refugees and said such an influx can’t be averted when a neighboring state had plunged into a civil war.

During his premiership, Shahid visited Afghanistan on the initiation of Afghan Afghan President Ashraf Ghani to deliberate upon durable Afghan-led peace process, bilateral ties and regional connectivity.

Addressing the UN General Assembly in 2017, Shahid said Pakistan won’t to be a scapegoat for Afghanistan's bloodshed or to fight wars for others.
