Two arrested for spilling toxic chemical in Rawal Dam results in massive fish, aquatic life loss

At least two people have been arrested for allegedly killing thousands of fish and aquatic life of Rawal Dam after spilling toxic chemicals in its water, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Friday.   

Rawal Lake is an artificial reservoir that provides the water needs for the cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

According to the sources, the incident came to light the day before yesterday when authorities discovered that the water had been contaminated by poisonous substances, leading to the widespread death of marine organisms.

In response to the incident, law enforcement swiftly acted and apprehended two suspects allegedly involved in the contamination of the water.

The authorities have registered a case against the individuals under the stringent provisions of the Fisheries Department, indicating the seriousness with which they view the matter.

They allegedly used to spill poison into the water for killing the fix. Later, they sold out the dead fish in the market.

The sources said that individuals resorted to using poisonous chemicals to facilitate their fishing activities, resulting in the unintentional destruction of the dam's delicate ecosystem.

As a consequence, a significant number of fish and other aquatic species met a tragic end.

Even, the birds drinking water from the dam also perished to death along with the water life.

There have been previous incidents of killing fish using electric shocks and hand grenades in Rawal Dam.

To ascertain the cause of the mass deaths and to gather evidence for legal proceedings, samples of the deceased fish and other affected aquatic life were carefully collected and sent to a laboratory for analysis.

The police started a series of raids to arrest the fish-killing mafia of Rawal Lake.
