Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Secretary General Nayyer Bukhari has written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) in which he has drawn his attention towards the release of development funds by Prime Minister Imran Khan to the members of the National Assembly (MNAs) and Senate as well as his meetings with them just ahead of the elections for the Upper House of the Parliament, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
In the letter, Nayyar Bukhari has pleaded that since the release of funds by PM Imran ahead of the Senate elections constitutes a breach of the election code of conduct, therefore action be taken against him.
Earlier, a five-member larger bench of the Supreme Court (SC), headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Gulzar Ahmed, on February 11 had disposed of the petition filed against the release of development funds to members of the parliament (MPs) by Prime Minister Imran Khan, saying it was satisfied by the reply given by the prime minister in the case.
Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) Khalid Jawed Khan told the court that the release of funds to legislators did not breach the constitution, adding that the Ministry of Finance looked into the matters related to the amounts released and their spending.
Taking notice of the release of development funds by Prime Minister Imran Khan to the lawmakers, Justice Qazi Faez Isa of the Supreme Court (SC) had on February 3 summoned the advocate general and attorney general to appear in the case.
Justice Qazi Faez Isa had reportedly taken notice after reading a story published in a newspaper.
