The Lahore High Court (LHC) will hear a petition tomorrow challenging the alleged use of government funds for personal advertising by political figures, including former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Justice Farooq Haider is set to preside over the hearing of the petition, which has been filed by a citizen, Ishba Kamran. The petition names Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Punjab Chief Secretary, and other officials as respondents in the case.
According to the petitioner, Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz have been utilizing public funds for their personal promotion since 2024. The petition argues that such expenditures violate Supreme Court rulings, which prohibit the use of national treasury funds for personal advertising.
The petition further states that images of the Punjab Chief Minister and her father have been prominently displayed on various government projects, which the petitioner claims is a misuse of taxpayers' money and contradicts court directives. The petitioner has urged the court to order an immediate halt to government spending on personal promotions and to mandate an audit of funds used under the supervision of the Punjab Chief Secretary.
The case is expected to bring significant scrutiny to the use of public funds for political advertising as the court reviews the matter.
