Social media is abuzz with the news that the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has inducted a young Pakistani Hindu from Tharpakar as GD pilot into its squad. His name is Rahul Dev and he comes from a small village in the Tharparkar District in Sindh.

The news was first shared by Rafique Ahmed Khokhar, principal staff officer to Interior Minister Brig (R) Ijaz Ahmad Shah, through a tweet.

Well-known TV anchor Nasim Zehra retweeted Rafique’s tweet and congratulated the young pilot on his success.

Maheen Khan, who is part of UN’s SDGs team, also joined the voices congratulating Rahul on his unique achievement.

Blogger and author Shahid Hussain Raja also came forward to congratulate the young pilot. He expressed the hope that “he will become a role model”.

Zunera Hashmi, entrepreneur, journalist, digital strategist and contributing author, praised the young pilot in these words “some incredible gems coming from THAR, you be the next”.

Tharparkar, a rural district in interior Sindh, has a considerable size of Hindu population, but lacks most of the basic facilities. In recent years, Tharparker has been in the news for child deaths caused by malnutrition.
