All preventive measures seem futile in face of fast pacing dengue

Dengue epidemic is spreading so fast in the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as there is a constant increase in the number of patients in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan and Peshawar, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The health department said on Sunday that there were 68 cases reported during the last 24 hours in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. There are total 1,626 dengue patients in the province and 137 patients are being treated in hospitals. 

According to the health department, 11 people were diagnosed with dengue in Peshawar during past 24 hours. And the total number of dengue patients in the provincial capital is 338. 

In Swabi, dengue virus was detected in 14 patients and in Mansehra, 9 people were affected by dengue

In Abbottabad, dengue virus was found in 5 people and in Nowshera 8 dengue cases were reported during past 24 hours. 

So far one patient succumbed to the dengue virus in the province. 

According to the Islamabad district health officer, the situation was also deteriorating in the federal capital as 64 cases were reported during last 24 hours. 

There are 527 dengue patients in Islamabad and three patients have died of the virus so far. The situation is really alarming in the federal capital. In its rural areas, 43 new cases were reported and in urban areas, the number of dengue patients was 343. 

During past 24 hours, 21 new cases were reported in Islamabad and there are total 184 dengue patients in the urban areas of the federal capital. 

The local administrations are taking preventive measures to control dengue across the province on the orders of Secretary Health Imran Sikandar Baloch. 

He said anti-dengue measures were being taken to destroy and prevent the spread of dengue larvae in the Punjab

A total of 176 cases were reported in the province during past 24 hours, the secretary informed. He said 131 new cases were emerged in Lahore

In Rawalpindi dengue virus was found in 23 patients; in Gujranwala 4; in Sheikhupura 3; in Sialkot, Dera Ghazi Khan and Nankana Sahib 2 each; in Sargodha, Faisalabad, Kasur, Hafizabad, Muzaffargarh, Mianwali, Pakpattan, Rajanpur and Bahawal Nagar one each. 

Secretary Sikandar said that there were 2,189 confirmed dengue cases across Punjab and in Lahore the total number of dengue patients being treated at city hospitals was 158.

In Lahore’s Ganga Ram Hospital, there are 25 patients; in Jinnah Hospital 22; in Services Hospital 12; in General Hospital 10; in Mayo Hospital 9; in Gulab Devi Hospital 7; in Fatima Memorial Hospital and in Hameed Latif Hospital 8 each; in Umar Hospital and in University of Lahore Teaching Hospital 3 each; in Ever care, Ghurki Trust Hospital, Itefaq Hospital 2 each; in Adil, Central Park Teaching and Hayat Memorial hospitals one each; in Life Line, Mansoora and Saira Memorial hospitals of Lahore 1 each dengue patients are being treated, the secretary 

The secretary urged people to take extra measures during rains and do not let rain water accumulate in the residential areas. He said yesterday, the health department inspection teams checked 403,304 indoor and 87,259 outdoors places across Punjab and destroyed 1,825 larvae.
